The export price for wholesale fresh cut flowers in the year 2017 was USD 3.89, and USD 4.01 in 2018. The price continued to rise to USD 4.12 in 2019. Still the price of fresh cut flowers was favourable for export as the price shot to USD 4.30 per KG in 2020.
The wholesale price of fresh cut flowers per KG in 2021 was USD 4.41, a further increase in price from the year 2020. Despite the higher cut flower price, the export value in the year 2019 was only 104.1 billion ($971 million) compared to the previous year, which was 113.2 billion ($1.06 billion).
The most exported flower for the years 2017 to 2021 was rose cut flowers with the European Union being the biggest importer.
The year 2022 saw a sharp increase in the export of fresh cut flowers as Kenya exported 1.421 and 1.418 million metric tonnes in March and September. Kenya floriculture won over these markets thanks to high quality flowers, competitive prices and efficient ĺogistics.

According to data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), the month of April and May saw flower exports of 8,710 and 9,098 metric tonnes respectively. The European markets have had stricter rules such as taxes, restrictions, and red tape which have proven to be a challenging factor for Kenyan flower farms.
What about the price? Well, the current wholesale price for fresh cut flowers is between USD 2.71 and USD 2.78 per kilogram.
